THE 18th HOLE by James Lumbers
Golfers have a boundless enthusiasm for the game and many bets have been won or lost on a turn of fate. After a very close game a subdued older brother looks on helplessly from the sand trap as his young brother eagled the 18th hole. His wife is smiling because this is the first of the past four games when youthful enthusiasm triumphed over mature concentration.
Leaning on his experience, he consoled himself, believing that it was the wind that caused his ball to sheer off course. But then it could have been the unexpected appearance of his Grandfather and Uncle giving his younger brother a helping hand. No doubt these will have a lively discussion back at the clubhouse. As the old fellows chuckle in the corner.
